The latest geometry games share a common foundation, and this FAQ applies equally to all of them. In the questions and answers below, the term application refers to whatever application you are currently using, such as the Torus Games or Curved Spaces.
Q1. The application tells me it Couldn’t find a language file for my preferred language. What should I do?
If you are happy to use the application in English, then all is well.
If the application can’t find a language file for English either, please see Question #2.
If you’d like to translate the application’s menus and help text into your own native language, please let me know and I’ll send you the text to be translated. Thanks!
Q2. The application tells me it Couldn’t find a language file for English. What should I do?
Each application comes with a collection of supporting files for Languages, Textures, Help, and so on. If the application gets separated from its supporting files, you’ll receive the message Couldn’t find a language file for your preferred language followed immediately by Couldn’t find a language file for English. The problem may arise in one of two ways:
Possible cause #1. Some older low-quality un-zipping programs “flatten the folder structure”. That is, they place all the un-zipped files into a single folder, ignoring subfolders. If this has happened to you, the language file (whose name ends with -en.dll) will be sitting in the same folder with the application itself (the .exe file), rather than in the Languages subfolder where it belongs. Fortunately the fix is very easy: download a fresh copy of the application (the .zip file) from www.geometrygames.org and then un-zip the .zip file using Windows XP’s built-in un-zipper (not your third-party unzipper). To use Windows XP’s built-in un-zipper, right-click on the .zip file that you just downloaded and from the menu that pops up choose Extract All… Click next as necessary to save the un-zipped application folder to your hard drive. The un-zipper will automatically place all files into the correct subfolders.
Possible cause #2. If you moved the application’s .exe file to your desktop or some other location on your computer’s hard drive and you didn’t move the supporting files along with it, then the application will fail to find its supporting files. The fix is easy: download a fresh copy of the application (the .zip file) from www.geometrygames.org, un-zip it, and then move the whole folder as a single unit, so the application and its subfolders all travel together.
Q3. The application tells me it Cannot find an “OpenGL driver” for my 3D graphics hardware. What is an OpenGL driver and where can I find one?
This problem rarely occurs on home computers, but sometimes crops up in computer labs. The page Setting Up OpenGL Software in a Computer Lab explains how to fix it.
Q4. My question doesn’t appear on this FAQ. What should I do?
First take a look at the application’s built-in help files (choose Help… from the application’s Help menu). If they don’t resolve your question, please submit it via the Geometry Games Contact Page for a more-or-less prompt reply.
